Board of Directors
A five-member Board of Directors, elected for staggered four-year terms oversees the
District's work. Under state law, only two of the Directors can represent incorporated
areas of the City of Austin. Three Directors must reside in rural areas of the
District. The Board meets at least bimonthly. All Board and advisory committee
meetings are open to the public. Directors hire a general manager, who is the chief
operating officer.
The Board sets policies and adopts rules and bylaws to operate the District. The
Board also appoints a Policy Advisory Committee to review and recommend various
activities and procedures of the District. This committee is made up of local citizens
who are knowledgeable about environmental and economic concerns within the District.
Board members serve on state and local committees to address issues that affect
groundwater, and also speak at meetings and events. Subjects include topics about
legislation, policy, and general information about the aquifer.
