Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Household Hazardous Waste Cleanup

The District has been a cosponsor of a household hazardous waste collection event for northern Hays County since 1998. The event is planned and managed in the past by the Central Texas Household Hazardous Waste Program made possible by a grant from the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission and the Capital Area Planning Council. The District is one of several local agencies and organizations that contribute funds, volunteers, and other kinds of assistance to hold the event. Residents can bring items such as paint, use motor oil, antifreeze, pesticides, fertilizers, car batteries, furniture refinishing products, pool chemicals, solvents, and similar toxic items for proper disposal at no cost. Therefore, residents are encouraged to store these products in a safe manner until the event instead of putting them in regular garbage collection or disposing of the materials on the land.

Participants need not get out of the cars. Volunteers will direct them to the drop off site and distribute informative brochures about the aquifer and hazardous product alternatives. Staff from the CTHHWP and contracted environmental waste workers will unload materials, sort them in the collection area, and then prepare them for transport and disposal.

Information about scheduled collection events will be posted here.
